Safe, Reliable Automation for Busy Entrances

At Procter Fencing & Security, we design, supply and install automated gate systems for commercial, industrial and public-sector sites. From sliding and swing gates to bi-folding speed gates, cantilever gates and rising arm barriers, our solutions are built for high duty cycles, safety and long-term reliability. Working across South Wales and throughout the UK, our CSCS-qualified automation engineers handle everything from surveys and risk assessments to commissioning, documentation and ongoing maintenance.

We can retrofit automation to existing structures or deliver complete new systems—integrated with access control, intercoms and CCTV for a seamless user experience. Every project is delivered to current BS EN and UKCA requirements, with clear handover and support to keep your entrance operating safely and efficiently.

Safe, Reliable Automation for Busy Entrances

Automated gates must balance security, throughput and safety. We assess approach speeds, sight lines, ground conditions and operational patterns (shift changes, visitor peaks) to specify the correct operators, safety devices and controls. Typical considerations include duty cycle, wind loading, clear opening width, fail-safe/hold-open behaviour, and manual release in the event of power failure.

Gate Types We Automate

  • Sliding gates – compact footprint, ideal for constrained or high-security entrances.
  • Swing gates – single or double leaf; classic appearance with robust operators.
  • Bi-folding (speed) gates – rapid cycle times for logistics depots and high-traffic sites.
  • Cantilever gates – trackless operation, reliable in uneven or debris-prone yards.
  • Rising arm barriers – effective for car parks, staff entrances and controlled vehicle access.

Operator options include electromechanical and hydraulic units with appropriate ingress protection, heaters for cold sites, and matched control panels.

Safety, Standards & Compliance

All installations are completed and tested to:

  • BS EN 12453:2017 (Safety in use of power operated doors, gates and barriers)
  • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (as retained in UK law) and UKCA marking
  • Relevant electrical and EMC standards

We conduct documented risk assessments, force testing, and functional checks of safety edges, photocells, light curtains, guarding and emergency stop devices. You’ll receive a technical file, user instructions and a maintenance schedule at handover.

Controls, Access & Integration

We integrate automation with:

  • Access control – keypads, proximity/fob/card readers, biometrics
  • Intercoms – audio/video with remote release and logging
  • CCTV – event-linked recording and visual verification
  • ANPR & vehicle tags – for depots and car parks
  • Building systems – fire alarm interfaces (fail-safe open/close), BMS signals
  • Safety/traffic hardware – loops, beacons, traffic lights and signage

Control logic can be configured for time schedules, free-exit, anti-tailgating and fire-alarm override as required.

Installation, Commissioning & Handover

Our process covers survey, design, civils and power coordination, mechanical installation, electrical wiring, commissioning and training. We provide:

  • As-installed drawings and wiring schematics
  • Force-test results and compliance documentation
  • User training for daily operation and manual release
  • Planned maintenance recommendations based on duty cycle

Maintenance, Repairs & Upgrades

To keep systems compliant and dependable, we offer planned maintenance and responsive repairs—including upgrades to bring third-party gates up to current standards. Service visits include functional and safety testing, firmware checks, mechanical inspections and written reports. Priority 24/7 call-out is available for contract clients.
