Why Choose Procter Bi-Folding Speed Gates
Our bifold gates are fast and safe
Bifold gates are often used where there is continual or high levels of vehicle traffic, plus where it is also important that the gate closes after each individual vehicle passes through and then quickly opens again for the next one – so perhaps a staff car park entrance.
Our 100 years plus of innovative design, skilled manufacture and careful installation is what underpins our offer for the relatively new automatic bifold gates. The opening and closing speed of our bifold gates can be as low as 10 seconds, though this will, of course, depends on other factors and in particular the size of the entrance span the gate needs to cover.

Fast Operation & Safety Compliance
As with all the automatic gate types we design, manufacture and install at Procter, safety is of course absolutely paramount. All automatic gates, by their very nature, present a danger if proper measures are not put in place to ensure otherwise. However and because of the physical speed which bifold gates are designed to open and close at, they arguably present an even greater risk and therefore we guarantee that all our bi-folding gates fully meet or exceed the legal requirements.
As with all gate types, we have refined and developed our bifold gates to ensure both reliable and safe operation.
Key Features
- Open and close in less time than a swing or sliding gate.
- Useful where security requirements dictated that an entrance should only remain open for a minimum period of time
- Taking up less space when open, helpful in a solution where there was limited space for the gate to open into
- Compared to a swing gate, they can more easily cope with gradients as the full span of the gate obviously does not extend to the same length when it opens and closes
Bespoke Bifold Gates
Of course, always retaining the basic principle of the bifold gate, our bespoke design service ensures that gates can be designed and manufactured to suit the exact site requirements – both operational and aesthetic.
Over and above the width and height of the gates, key considerations for the design can be:
- What basic type of material and style will be used and normally to match adjacent fencing e.g. welded mesh, palisade or balustrade
- What the finish and colour will be – we can powder coat to any RAL colour or create special colours to match corporate branding etc.
- Whether or not a company or school logo is to be included on the face of the gates – something we can fully handle in-house including using laser-cutting technology
Related to the bespoke design, is what type of access control system is used and based entirely on operational requirements. Access control options are numerous and include radio remote control, proximity detectors, number plate recognition, magnetic card reader, induction loop detector, local or remote bush button, CCTV remote control. These options also apply to sliding gates.

Made-to-Measure Gate Design & Fabrication
Procter Fencing & Security specialises in the design, fabrication, and installation of bespoke custom gates for commercial, industrial, and architectural projects. Each gate is made to measure, built to BS EN safety standards, and finished to your specification — with options for automation and access control. Manufactured in-house and installed nationwide, our gates combine precision engineering with aesthetic quality.
Why Choose Procter Bespoke Gates
Procter Contracts are leading specialists in providing bespoke, custom-made gates to suit all customer styles and designs. We are equally happy to work to customers’ or specifiers’ concept sketches or detailed designs. We can also create suitable bespoke designs in discussion with the customer or architect.
Specifications of all our gates are bespoke to each application to take account of individual site requirements which will invariably always be different. So whether the gate is sliding, telescopic, bi-folding or swing design, every gate we produce is unique in some way and specifically optimised for the application.

Materials, Finishes & Automation Options
As well as offering a wide range of material specification options, for some locations and applications the aesthetic appearance of an entrance is very important – e.g. a school or prestigious manufacturing facility. Where this is the case, we are able to design gates in traditional or contemporary security or ornamental styles which fully take account of any number of visual elements, design details from the building the gates protect, to special colours and company or establishment logos. See examples of branding logos for gates
All these visual enhancements take nothing away from the security and functionality elements of the gates, and are simply there because the nature of the site ideally requires it. We have huge experience in implementing aesthetic design needs on gates, and can work to architects’ drawings or use the skills of our own designers.
Having agreed on the design, our engineers will take on-site measurements including ground levels and put the gates into production in our own factory before finishing to a high standard in a colour scheme of the customers’ choice.
Security gates
What are security gates?
Security gates are robust steel entrance gates for controlling vehicular access to and from sites. We offer a range of standard security gates and, most importantly, we also have in-house facilities to design and manufacture custom metal gates to suit your requirements. Security gates will only perform as intended if they are correctly installed, so we always install the gates, after which we issue a Declaration of Conformity and apply the CE mark to show they are safe and compliant with the Machinery Directive. In addition, we offer maintenance contracts to ensure the gates continue to operate reliably and safely.
During our 100+ years in this business we have provided security gates to most of the relevant market sectors. For example, we have installed metal security gates at data centres, warehouses, airports, docks, government buildings, defence establishments, utilities sites, hospitals and care homes, commercial and industrial premises, waste recycling centres, schools, sports grounds and leisure facilities, and prisons and young offender institutions.
Integration with Access Control Systems
To complement our high-security gates, we supply access control systems, pedestrian gates, turnstiles, steel security fencing in a variety of formats and specifications, Armco barriers, rising-arm barriers, bollards, one-way flow plates and speed ramps.

Manual & Automatic Operation Options
Because of the many different types of application and diverse site requirements, we offer a broad choice of standard and bespoke security gates. These can be categorised as:
- Tracked sliding gates
- Cantilevered sliding gates
- Telescopic gates
- Swing gates
- Bi-folding gates
These all feature heavy-duty construction to provide the necessary security, hence all but the smallest are powered and/or automated. The infill can be welded wire mesh, palisade, balustrade, sheet steel or laser-cut bespoke designs. Gates, gate posts and associated hardware are hot-dip galvanised for long-lasting protection against corrosion, and an optional polyester powder-coated finish can be applied on top of the galvanising in your choice of colour.
What are the key features and advantages of security gates?
Security gates are a vital element of a site’s perimeter protection. They, therefore, have to be extremely robustly constructed, possess good climb resistance, and the drive mechanism needs to be protected from attempts at tampering.
Our commercial security gates, industrial gates and other types of security gate are fabricated from heavy-gauge steel. Corresponding gate support posts and related hardware are similarly robustly constructed to avoid any weak points.
As the gates tend to be relatively heavy, we install powerful drive systems that normally feature electric motors; hydraulic systems can be installed if specified by the customer. Bearings, guides and other components are all selected to give a long, trouble-free operating life.
Powered and automated security gates are defined as ‘machines’ and therefore have to be CE marked to indicate compliance with the Machinery Directive. CE marking can only be completed once the gate has been installed and commissioned, which is why we provide a turnkey service that covers everything including site survey, technical consultation, design, manufacture, installation and commissioning. Having complete control over the safety aspects means can be certain that the gate is safe before we CE mark it.
Safety measures depend on the application, gate usage pattern and type of gate, but we typically install safety light beams, pressure-sensitive edges, warning beacons and alarms. If the customer opts for an ongoing maintenance contract, these safety devices will all be examined and tested periodically, as will the drive mechanism, bearings, guides and other components.
All of our security gates are built to applicable British, European and international standards, as well as current guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Automated Gate Group of the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF). In addition, we can manufacture gates that are certified to security rating SR2 of the LPS 1175 standard.
Standards that our security gates comply with include:
- BS EN 12453 Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates. Safety in use of power operated doors. Requirements and test methods
- BS EN 12604 Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates. Mechanical aspects. Requirements and test methods
- BS EN 12635 Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates. Installation and use
- BS EN 12978 Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates. Safety devices for power-operated doors and gates. Requirements and test methods
- BS EN 13241 Industrial, commercial, garage doors and gates. Product standard, performance characteristics
In addition, our gates comply with numerous specialist electrical and machinery safety standards.
If security is a major concern, the project specification will often call for gates and fencing that are ‘Secured by Design’. As an SBD-accredited installer, we offer a range of products that comply with this nationally-recognised Official Police Security Initiative.
Why Choose Procter High Security Gates
Procter Fencing & Security supplies and installs LPS 1175 SR-rated high-security gates for sites that demand maximum protection and compliance. Each gate is designed to BS EN safety standards and independently tested to LPS 1175 security ratings, providing reliable defence for utilities, defence and critical infrastructure projects. Installed across South Wales and the UK by CSCS-qualified engineers.
In one recent project, we designed, manufactured and installed two automated telescopic gates for Exol Lubricants’ head office and distribution centre in the West Midlands. Space on the site was extremely restricted, so telescopic gates were ideal because they need only minimal space during and after opening. We worked up our designs from the architect’s drawings, which included intricate decorative panels that we profiled on our CNC laser cutting machine. The main contractor commented: “Procter was excellent to deal with. They were able to take the client brief and create a practical, high-quality solution to a far from straightforward problem.” As well as the gates, we also manufactured and installed fence panels with similar laser-cut bespoke designs.
Another good illustration of our capability is a project we completed for the world-famous Crystal Palace Football Club. The entrance gates are a key element of a club’s brand, yet they must also provide good security. Crystal Palace FC approached Procter Contracts due to our many years’ experience and expertise in creating large, ornate, custom-designed gates. Working from the club’s design brief, we submitted our designs. Once these were agreed, we designed, manufactured and embossed the gates with the club’s badge. Our installation team installed the swing gates within a day, as well as installing 5m and 1.2m single-leaf gates.
Why Choose Procter Site Turnstiles
Procter Fencing & Security supplies and installs full-height and tripod turnstiles for controlled pedestrian access on construction, industrial and public sites. Our systems integrate seamlessly with access control technology to ensure safety, efficiency and compliance. Installed by CSCS-qualified engineers across South Wales and throughout the UK, Procter turnstiles provide secure, professional entry management for all environments.
Our full-height turnstile gates are safe if you need to control pedestrian access to or from a site, secure and cost-effective. Depending on your requirements, these can be located alongside gates or within a fence line. For high-traffic locations, you can specify multiple turnstiles to maintain sufficient throughput.
Our pedestrian turnstile gates are designed, manufactured and installed to be robust and long-lasting. Most are manufactured from mild steel, then galvanised to resist corrosion and powder-coated in the customer’s choice of colour. As an alternative, we offer stainless steel turnstiles that need no additional finishing.

Our turnstiles can be equipped with various access control systems for manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic operation, either as a standalone access point or integrated within a site-wide security system.
Why Choose Procter Rising Arm Barriers
Procter Fencing & Security supplies and installs automatic rising arm barriers for secure car park and vehicle access control. Designed to BS EN safety standards and installed by CSCS-qualified engineers, our systems provide safe, reliable, and professional entry management for industrial, commercial, and public facilities. Operating across South Wales and the UK, Procter delivers dependable access solutions built to last.
Our automatic car park barriers are popular and cost-effective for controlling vehicular access to private car parks and similar applications. An automatic barrier can also be used in conjunction with an automatic gate, the car park barrier controlling access during the day and the gate providing greater security at other times. The maximum span for our car park barrier is 9m but wider openings can be secured with a pair of opposing barriers.
Installed Across South Wales & UK
All of our car park barriers benefit from a galvanised steel and powder coated housing for the operating mechanism, and a powder-coated aluminium boom. The electric motors are powerful, robust and reliable, and we always install suitable safety measures. In addition to our supply and installation services, we also offer maintenance contracts to ensure our car park barriers continue to operate safely and efficiently for years to come.

To complement our car park barriers we can install access control systems that either operates just with the barrier or integrate with a site-wide security system.
Our barriers are designed, manufactured and installed in compliance with the Machinery Directive, hence we CE Mark them and you are assured of their safety.
What are SR1 swing gates?
Provides a good balance between high security and clear visibility for CCTV and security patrols
SR1 swing gates are security entrance gates designed and manufactured by Procter Contracts and independently certified as complying with LPCB standard LPS 1175 Issue 8.0 Security Rating SR1. The LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) is part of BRE Global, a third-party approvals body, and LPS 1175 is an internationally recognised standard for certification of intruder-resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers.
Security rated to SR1 and listed in the LPCB Red Book, SR1 swing gates have been tested and verified as being resistant to a sustained attack using a predefined set of hand tools for a specified time period.

SR1 swing gates – product overview
SR1 swing gates are available as single-leaf and double-leaf designs in a range of widths and heights for pedestrian or vehicular access. There is also a choice of manual or powered/automated operation, plus we can supply and install various access control systems.
Swing gates normally cost less than comparable sliding gates and are often operated manually – which therefore saves the cost of gate automation. Furthermore, unlike ordinary swing gates, SR1 swing gates are independently certified as providing enhanced security. The SR1 security rating enables specifiers to demonstrate that they have performed due diligence in securing the site perimeter, which can be very helpful for projects required to be Secured by Design.
Our skilled installation teams normally complete the work in one day, which minimises disruption at the site being secured. This is the case even when we are installing, commissioning and CE marking powered/automated gates.
Key Features
SR1 swing gates are manufactured entirely from steel and provide good security thanks to their resistance to cutting and climbing. By paying careful attention to the design and manufacture of these gates, we ensure they meet the high standards necessary for achieving an SR1 security rating. For example, hinge protection plates are installed, and the latch areas are reinforced.
Each gate leaf features a robust framework fabricated from RHS (rectangular hollow section) steel, braced as necessary. Heavy-duty 868 wire mesh is fully welded into the frame. This mesh provides a good balance between high security and clear visibility for CCTV and security patrols.
Gate leaves and gate posts are hot-dip galvanised for long-lasting resistance to corrosion and we can optionally apply a tough polyester powder coat on top of the galvanising for further protection and improved aesthetics; standard colours are black and green, or we can apply almost any other RAL colour on request. Finishes are applied in accordance with these standards:
- BS EN ISO 1461 (Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles – Specifications and test methods)
- BS EN 13438 (Paints and varnishes – Powder organic coatings for hot-dip galvanised or sherardized steel products for construction purposes)
With their robust construction and anti-corrosion finish, SR1 swing gates require little or no maintenance over their long lifetime. The main exception is that automated or powered gates need periodic inspections to ensure they continue to operate safely and reliably. In any event, we offer maintenance contracts or, if the gate suffers damage during use, we can undertake repairs on-site or at our factory.

SR2 swing gates are high-security entrance gates are independently tested and verified as meeting LPCB standard LPS 1175 Issue 8.0 Security Rating SR2. The gates have been proven to resist a sustained attack using hand tools for a defined period of time and are listed in the LPCB Red Book as being SR2 security rated.
The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is part of BRE Global, a third-party approvals body, and LPS 1175 is the internationally recognised standard for certification of intruder-resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers.

SR2 swing gates – product overview
SR2 swing gates come in single-leaf and double-leaf formats in a choice of widths and heights for securing pedestrians or vehicle access points. Customers can also specify manual or powered/automated operation, and we offer a variety of access control systems.
While our SR1 swing gates provide good security, the SR2 single and double swing gates offer significantly higher security for only a small increase in cost. When tested against the LPS 1175 standard, the SR2 gates withstand a sustained attack using a broader array of tools and for a longer period. Furthermore, the gates’ internationally recognised SR2 security rating enables specifiers to demonstrate that they have performed due diligence in securing the site perimeter. This can prove invaluable for projects required to meet Secured by Design standards.
Compared with sliding gates, swing gates normally cost less and are often operated manually – which therefore avoids the costs of automation and the associated ongoing maintenance.
Installation normally requires just one day, so disruption at the site being secured is kept to an absolute minimum. Even when we are installing, commissioning and CE marking powered/automated gates, our skilled installation teams usually only need one day.
Key Features
- All-steel construction makes our SR2 swing gates more robust than gates fabricated from other materials, and the mesh used for the cladding provides excellent anti-climb and anti-cut characteristics. The SR2 security rating applies to gates in a variety of heights and widths, so we can supply high-security gates for a variety of different applications. Detailed design features that help the gates achieve their coveted SR2 certification include high-security mesh cladding, hinge protection plates and reinforced latch areas.
- Each gate leaf has a framework fabricated from heavy-gauge RHS (rectangular hollow section) steel, braced as necessary. Robust twin-wire 868 wire mesh is fully welded into the frame to ensure there are no weak points. The 868 mesh is then double-clad with heavy-duty 358 anti-cut, anti-climb mesh that is attached using clamp bars, security bolts and shear cone nuts. The combination of 868 mesh and 358 mesh provides excellent resistance to cutting and climbing while still providing visibility for CCTV systems and security patrols.
- All steel parts are hot-dip galvanised for long-lasting resistance to corrosion and we can optionally apply a tough polyester powder coat on top of the galvanising for further protection and improved aesthetics. Our standard colours are black and green but customers can specify almost any other RAL colour.
- Hot-dip galvanising is in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461 (Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles – Specifications and test methods) and powder coating complies with BS EN 13438 (Paints and varnishes – Powder organic coatings for hot-dip galvanised or sherardized steel products for construction purposes).
- With their robust construction and anti-corrosion finish, SR2 swing gates require little or no maintenance over their long lifetime. What are SR2 sliding gates?
SR2 sliding gates have been proven to resist a sustained attack using hand tools for a specified time.
SR2 sliding gates have been independently tested and verified as achieving security rating SR2 as defined by the internationally recognised LPCB standard LPS 1175 Issue 8.0, and they are therefore listed in the LPCB Red Book. The LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) is part of BRE Global, a third-party approvals body, and LPS 1175 is a standard for certification of intruder-resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers.

SR2 sliding gates – product overview
SR2 sliding gates are manufactured in various widths and heights, mainly for controlling vehicular access but also for pedestrians if large numbers of people need to enter or leave a site. Smaller sizes can be manually operated but the majority of our SR2 sliding gates are powered or automated. If the gate is powered/automated, we also offer a choice of access control systems.
Compared with swing gates, sliding gates are harder to force open, plus they offer the advantage that they can be installed at entrances having a gradient. Sliding gates also require little space when open. Moreover, compared with our SR1 sliding gates, SR2 gates benefit from significantly higher security.
With their internationally recognised SR2 security rating, the SR2 sliding gates enable specifiers to demonstrate they have performed due diligence in securing the site perimeter. This can be a significant benefit for projects required to be Secured by Design.
For very large entrances, we can install a pair of opposing SR2 sliding gates. Contact us for more information about these.
Our skilled construction, mechanical and electrical teams normally complete the installation in just one day, which minimises disruption for the customer.
Key Features
- The design of the SR2 sliding gates is a further evolution of our security sliding gates that we have manufactured successfully for decades. The SR2 gates are all-steel, with the high level of security being achieved through a combination of robust construction, cladding that resists cutting and climbing, reinforced latch areas and other design features.
- Both the gate and support structure are designed and manufactured to high standards so the gate moves smoothly and quietly. Top-quality bearings and guides are used to guarantee a long, trouble-free life for the sliding mechanism.
- SR2 sliding gates feature a robust framework fabricated from RHS (rectangular hollow section) steel, braced as necessary. Cladding is heavy-duty 868 wire mesh, fully welded to the frame. To help these gates achieve their SR2 security rating, they are double-clad with 358 anti-cut, anti-climb welded wire mesh fixed in place using security bolts and shear cone nuts. Nevertheless, the multi-layered mesh cladding still permits visibility for security patrols and CCTV systems.
- Hot-dip galvanising provides long-lasting corrosion resistance for the gate and support structure. Customers also have the option of specifying a tough polyester powder coat on top of the galvanising for further protection and improved aesthetics; our standard colours are black and green, or we can apply almost any other RAL colour on request.
- Galvanising and powder coating are applied in accordance with, respectively, BS EN ISO 1461 (Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles – Specifications and test methods) and BS EN 13438 (Paints and varnishes – Powder organic coatings for hot-dip galvanised or sherardized steel products for construction purposes).
- SR2 sliding gates require little or no maintenance over their long lifetime thanks to the construction from heavy-gauge steel, corrosion-resistant finish and high-quality mechanical components. However, powered or automated gates should be inspected periodically to ensure they are still safe to use and that wear and tear of safety devices and mechanical components will not lead to unreliability. If required, we offer maintenance contracts or, if the gate suffers damage during use, we can undertake repairs on-site or at our factory.
