The Background

Architectural steelwork, forged to match existing 18th century gates.

Detailing and design to be in sympathy with the original Crowther gates. Decorative components were to reflect the history and heritage of all parts of the UK, and utilised lions, unicorns, daffodils, thistles, roses as well as myriad of leaves and flowers.

The Solution

All specifications were custom made for the Royal Parks Architects and railings were set into Portland stone plinths. Mild steel and copper, hammered and forged in traditional ways and pinned and led to cast copings and mild steel framework. Decorative elements were then glided with gold to produce a stunning visual impact.

The Result

The result is a seamless transition between modern and ancient, with no way to identify what was produced by Procter’s and our partner Paul Dennis in the 20th century and what was produced by equally skilled craftsmen over 250 years earlier.

In the main, photograph, the gate leaves are original, the piers, capping and single gates are modern.
