The Background
A straightforward project for us and a good example of how we are able to manufacture bespoke fencing and matching gates along with more standard products.
The main structures had to be exceptionally strong due to the location of Cardiff Bay and resulting high winds.
The Solution
We manufactured and installed 4.0 m high featheredge visual screening, 7.0 m high acoustic screening, plus seven automated gates and pedestrian turnstiles.
The areas shown have since been used for the sets of Casualty and Holby City.
After a storm with 100mph winds, the noise barriers acoustic fencing is still there without any damage.
The Result
Very pleased with the overall job and especially the acoustic screens.
The Background
This was a large project for a school and the third we’ve completed for the contractor in the Croydon area. It involved a wide range of fencing products, including the initial temporary hoarding through to bespoke louvred panels, plus a matching automatic swing gate. Both the bespoke panels and gate were manufactured by us.
The Solution
As it was for a special needs school, there was an obvious requirement for the fencing and main gate to provide both security and privacy for pupils.
The Result
“Nothing was too much trouble for the Procter Contracts Manager, and I found him to be very helpful and he dealt with all the issues very well as they arose.”
The Background
We manufactured and installed a cantilevered sliding gate, matching pedestrian gate and palisade fencing, plus 358 security mesh to the remaining site perimeter for this leading data storage company. Our complete service always ensures that matching fencing can be installed. Adding logos and colour-matching brand colours are straightforward for us.
The Solution
This sliding gate was automated via keypad, remote control and intercom with an override from the reception area, and was of course installed in strict accordance with current European Machine Directives and full CE marked.
The Result
This sliding gate was delivered largely assembled and ready for installation. Very pleased with all aspects of the job and in particular the speed of installation.
The Background
Prior to being awarded the contract, and throughout the execution of the project, Procter Automatic Gates worked closely with the head teacher, architects (Studio E), design consultants (FoRm Associates Ltd) and contractor (Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd).
Procter’s experts provided advice in relation to perimeter security, the specification of gates and fencing, the safety of powered gates, and access controls. Indeed, the company’s ability to provide a comprehensive service that included advice as well as design, manufacture and installation was one of the reasons why the contract was awarded to Procter, with competitive pricing and high quality being two further reasons.
The Solution
Procter Contracts has designed, manufactured and installed gates and fences at the Skinners’ Academy, a secondary school in Hackney sponsored by the Skinners’ Company and specialising in Business, Enterprise and ICT. The new facilities were procured under the PfS (Partnerships for Schools) Framework, with the total value of the project being £26 Million.
The automated gates for the school entrances are both cantilevered sliding gates that control access through 8m-wide openings. These are Procter Pro-glide 20 gates that have been customised with laser-cut panels containing the academy’s name in its own colours. In addition, the gates feature the architect’s choice of round pales to compliment the ornamental vertical bar railings either side of the entrances.
Procter Pro-glide automated gates can be installed and commissioned in just one day, with each gate being lifted directly into position using the crane mounted on the delivery lorry. After that, each gate was issued with a Declaration of Conformity and CE marked in accordance with the Machinery Directive.
Procter Contracts also supplied and installed railings, security mesh panel fencing and additional swing gates, of which there were two powered and four manual. In total there was 300m of boundary fencing, comprising ornamental railings along the roadside boundary and high-security mesh panel Pro-sure 358 fencing to provide anti-climb and anti-cut protection at the rear of the site.
The Result
Everything was installed by Procter’s own teams, with no use of subcontractors, to ensure the high-quality fencing and gates were not compromised by the substandard installation. The two powered sliding gates were also integrated with the academy’s access control system.
The Skinners’ Academy customer case study illustrates well how Procter can take on projects requiring a combination of automated gates, manually operated gates, ornamental railings and high-security fencing, providing a comprehensive service covering consultancy, design, manufacture and installation.
The Background
This project perfectly demonstrates our ability to deliver complete projects comprising fencing of any type, automatic gates, plus street furniture and bespoke metalwork.
The Solution
This was a very varied project in terms of what was required and saw us designing, manufacturing and installing cycle shelters, lighting bollards, an automatic telescopic gate, plus security fencing.
The Background
The development included a new Tesco store with affordable apartments above and to the side of it, plus a leisure centre.
We were responsible for all fencing and related bespoke products, including timber hoarding for the construction phase, railings, gates, Palisade and weldmesh fencing, with bespoke grating adjacent to a railway line.
The Solution
This was a very significant project for us and required a close working relationship with the client, and over the course of more than two years.
The Background
Leons Travel Group recently constructed a new coach depot in Beaconside, Stafford, and wanted to secure the site to minimise the risk of theft and to control access for coaches and delivery vehicles.
Although the company knew that sliding gates would be better than swing gates for the 12m wide main entrance, it was unsure of the exact specification. Karen Hall, the Project Manager, explains what happened next: Browsing the internet, we found the Procter Contracts website and realised that this was a large company with the right expertise. We contacted Procter and arranged for a representative to visit us. Following these initial discussions, we were invited to attend a seminar that Procter had organised in Birmingham, where we found out even more about sliding gates. We were then able to specify exactly what we needed.
Indeed, Karen Hall was so impressed with Procter Contracts that she decided to place the contract directly, rather than use the main contractors preferred supplier. When comparative quotes were obtained for the largely automated sliding gates, one was considerably higher and another, from a smaller local company, was slightly lower; but it was decided to go with Procter, which is an established company that operates nationwide.
The Solution
Procter Contracts has installed a pair of largely automated sliding gates and 500 linear metres of high-security mesh panel fencing and both manual and automated swing gates for Leons Travel Groups new coach depot.
The advantages of cantilevered sliding gates, in terms of higher reliability and ease of installation, persuaded Leons Coaches to specify these for the main entrance, with high-security 358 mesh infill to match the perimeter fencing. The largely automated sliding gates are operated via key fobs that the coach drivers have, whereas the swing gates have keypads and an intercom. Both sets of automated gates are equipped with all necessary safety measures to comply with current legislation and guidance from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), including pressure-sensitive safe edges and optical sensors. In the event of an object being detected while the gates are in motion, the gates stop and reverse for two seconds to clear the obstruction. After installation and commissioning, the gates were CE marked in accordance with the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which is a legal requirement for powered gates.
Because Procter Contracts designs and manufactures its own gates, any level of customisation can be undertaken. Leons Travel Group specified a standard Pro-Glide Series 20 design with a burgundy polyester powder-coated finish to match the companys branding, coaches and details on the new building. The fencing, fence posts and other entrance gates were also finished in the same colour, which provides a very attractive appearance for visitors approaching the site. When Karen Hall was browsing the Procter Contracts website she saw photographs of entrance gates branded with logos and colours; these have feature panels on the leading edges of the gate leaves into which the organisations name or logo is laser cut and infilled with a contrasting colour. She liked this so much that she added it to the specification so that each gate leaf features Leons in a striking shade of yellow and in the same font as used for the company branding.
One of the unusual aspects of the Procter Contracts design is that the gates are fully assembled and tested at the factory, then loaded onto a lorry. Groundworks are completed in advance of the gate arriving on site, so the lorry-mounted crane simply lifts the gate directly into position. After this it is quick and easy to make the electrical connections for the power and automation controls, then commission the gates and carry out the necessary safety tests such as ensuring the maximum allowable force is not exceeded in the event of the gate being obstructed. In fact, the on-site installation, commissioning and testing process is completed in one working day, which minimises disruption and helps to keep costs down. For the Leons project, the installers liaised with the main contractor on the site and scheduled the work to avoid disrupting the building works. A short video of the installation of the sliding gates is available.
The Result
Karen Hall is very pleased with the way the installation went, the service provided by Procter and the finished fencing and gates. She comments:
“This company exceeded our expectations in every respect. Right from the moment, we made our initial enquiry, everyone has been highly professional and extremely helpful; nothing has ever been too much for them. We have been using the gates for several months and they are excellent. We definitely made the right choice with cantilevered gates, despite what some other gate companies were trying to tell us, and we are really pleased with the appearance of the gates and fencing.
Although the colour is quite dark and the mesh size small, there is still very good visibility through the gates and fencing.
I would definitely recommend Procter Sliding Gates and Procter Fencing Systems, and while the main contractor originally wanted to use another supplier, they were so impressed with Procter that they told me they would be asking the company to quote for projects in the future.”
